Where is Kikatla is an original pencil drawing from 1988, by Roy Henry Vickers, Tsimshian First Nations Artist from the Pacific Northwest Coast.

This original pencil drawing is signed in original and the year it was created is written under the first name of the signature. This is a very rare piece, since Roy Henry Vickers's original pencil drawings are normally not sold. We believe this was purchased at a charity event. The image size is 18 inches or close to 46 centimeters wide and 10 inches or 25.5 centimeters high.

The following is quoted from Henry Vickers about the Original:

"This scene was the first that came to mind when I set to work on this project. So many times, I sat in solitude overlooking the ocean, wondering who I was and why in the world was I in this city. Where is Kitkatla?

I felt so lost, so alone and extremely nostalgic. Gazing at the ocean reminded me of Kitkatla. Lifting my eyes to the Olympic Mountains I was reminded of Hazelton and the Skeena Valley.

Today, when I visit Victoria, as I often do, I realize that Kitkatla is always with me.

My self portrayal is of a man in contemplation, sitting on a park bench in Victoria, with feet firmly fixed in the village of Kitkatla. The four houses are the four tribes of my village - Raven, Whale, Eagle and Wolf. And thus, the question is answered in the painting."

The original is framed and matted, is in excellent condition and has no visual imperfections. You might see some reflections in the glass. Personal viewing is recommended. We do not ship framed originals, since the danger of the glass damaging the original is too great. We will however ship it without frame and matting.
