Product Details

18th century. All iron with 25” wedge section blade of kopis form with straight back angled 14 ½” from the root. The width expanding at approximately that point as well. Heavy iron hilt with swelled grip, canted pommel, and large hemispherical quillon tips. Original blind stitched leather covered scabbard. The kopis form, of which the kukri is a short version, dates to antiquity. It moves the percussion area significantly toward the point, requiring a modified stroke while gaining inches of closure on the adversary. This example is probably Maratha and a well-used arsenal arm. The hilt and blade both show scattered patches of pitting and some tool marks. Rare form.
